The power of X

The power of X

I'll try and keep the spoilers to a minimum, I won't ruin endings or anything. As I said a few days ago, I felt like a traitor. From what I've heard, the Superman movie is good in a Summer blockbuster type way, but not faithful to the source material. Particularly, Superman shouldn't kill. Ever. Anyway, I had also heard that…

I feel like a traitor, kind of

For doubting Marvel... When we get a new cat I want to call it Richard Parker Oh yeah, before Star Trek started, there was a trailer for The Wolverine. It looked pretty badass. Being a Marvel kinda guy, really into the X-Men back in the day, I am well up for it. Then, directly after that, was a trailer for…
You are not a nerd, you are a tourist

You are not a nerd, you are a tourist

A real nerd t-shirt

What is it with all these Nerd, Geek, Dweeb and Dork t-shirts about at the moment? And why do I feel like 90% of the people wearing them are not nerds, geeks, dweebs, losers or dorks? The majority of them are teenage girls, and look quite up to date with their fashion. They do not look like the kind of people who could follow the plot of Game of Thrones, get a Killing Frenzy in Halo or explain why Klingons didn’t have knobbly foreheads in the original series of Star Trek. If they were really nerds, wouldn’t they wear t-shirts that look like random, normal t-shirts but are actually subtle references to nerdy TV shows or videogames or bands or comics that only fellow fans of nerdy TV shows or videogames or bands or comics would understand? For example, I have a t-shirt that is yellow and green, and has a Japanese symbol across the front of it. If you didn’t know about Jet Set Radio Future, you’d think it was simply a yellow and green t-shirt.

Tourists, the lot of them.

Anyway, that pre-ramble is to set the scene for what deeply disappointed me yesterday afternoon. There was a kid who was in shopping with his Mum, Dad and sister, he was about 12 I’d say, and he was wearing one of these slogan t-shirts. I saw him from the side at first, I noticed it ended in “t”. I had a little think about what it could be, tried to work it out in my head, but I would never have got it in a million years. After about five seconds of me thinking, the kid turned, and I saw the word which was emblazoned across his chest in 500pt bold type.

Our Honeymoon – Day 6

Our Honeymoon – Day 6

We went to Torquay on day six. There was a lack of good shops and/or arcades - I distinctly remember there being a good arcade here a couple of years ago. We went on the big wheel this time, it was quite good to see the town from that angle. They were playing Daft Punk's Get Lucky while we were…

Our Honeymoon – Day 5

Day five was a proper chill day. We went to Dartington Shops, saw some cool artwork by a guy called Moose, went to a farm shop and bought some cheesecake, some ham, some cheese, some general farm goods, and made ourselves a ploughman's for lunch. We watched some Dexter, had paella for tea, then we spent the rest of the…
Our Honeymoon – Day 4

Our Honeymoon – Day 4

We had no eggs left on day four and it was a little bit rainy. This made me want to sadface all over the place, but then I remembered it was our Honeymoon, so I stopped being sad and went back to being awesome. We went to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth on this day, and they have a…
Our Honeymoon – Day 3

Our Honeymoon – Day 3

On Day 3 we finished off the last of the farm eggs (which tasted so much better than regular eggs it must be said), and went to Brixham. I like Brixham, it has a nice atmosphere, and a nice fishy smell to it. I drank too many random beers the night before, and I was hanging a little bit, so…

Our Honeymoon – Day 2

Sunday was Jane's birthday. I slept very well, had a nice green tea in bed, then a bowl of Just Right and some delicious scrambled farm eggs on rustic wholemeal toast. The shower in our apartment was incredible - kind of sunk into the ground. We went off to Cockington on this day, Cockington Court in particular. Jane downloaded a…
Our Honeymoon – Day 1

Our Honeymoon – Day 1

Day one. This started at home, early Saturday morning. Unlike previous holidays, where I've not really been bothered about getting up early on a Saturday morning ready to travel, I don't tend to work stupidly early on a Saturday morning anymore, so getting up at 5 in the morning hurt. And it didn't help that I did not sleep very…
