I own a car

Do you like… My car.

So this is one of the final steps in my last action plan – buying a car. All that’s left to do on the old plan is pass tests and become legally able to drive the car I’ve just bought. The new plan is more about consolidating things, and streamlining processes. One post on here a week as a general update, more if needed. Start doing the freewriting again, that was fun. Finish things rather than start more new things. Release things that no longer resonate with me, without feeling guilty. Shrink my possessions. Read more books. Do more exercise. You know, that kind of thing. I’ve decided not to publish my entire plan on here (I never published the last one either), but I will update on here when I hit milestones and achieve significant accomplishments, such as this.

So. I own a car.

I had initially tried to apply for loans to afford a car, but because of the Coronavirus situation, not a lot of places were lending money. So I put aside the money that I would have used to repay a loan, saved up for a bit, and bought myself a Hyundai Veloster. It looks great, it’s really stylish in bright red, and it has everything I wanted. Rear parking camera, Satellite Navigation, bluetooth, an amazing sunroof, low road tax and insurance, it’s perfect. I’m even looking forward to giving it a good clean. While she has only had one previous owner, it doesn’t look like they really took care of her that well, so I’m going to give her some TLC. I can restart lessons in September, so by then I will be able to put all four new tyres on, do a full MOT and make sure she’s in tip top condition.

Also due to that pesky Coronavirus, the pass I earned on the theory test I took a couple years back has expired, so I’ve had to book a new one. I literally booked it yesterday, in the middle of the night, just after buying car insurance online as well. Technology is mad sometimes, it really is. Automated systems such as these are wonderous… When they work as intended.

A step closer to independence. A step closer to realising my dream of doing something worthwhile with my life. I’m not far away from being able to, if I wanted, look for jobs that are not along bus routes. Jobs that are a bit further afield. I can look for volunteering opportunities. Go and do things at the drop of a hat, without having to factor in travel restrictions. Apply for college courses that are further away or harder to get to.

I’ve often imagined that owning and driving a car would be a bit like travelling around the solar system in Destiny. In that game you have a little spaceship, just the right size for one person, and it can take you to any planet you like. Having a car you can just decide to go somewhere, and then just go there. It’s like having a mobile base of operations. At least, that’s how I’m planning on using it. I’m so excited!

A whole new world is about to open up.

Am I scared? Yeah, a little. But I relish the challenge. Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway. I can handle it.
