Project tokkybot: Completed it on EASY

Current character level: 9
Current class and level: Ranger 2

I didn’t really complete PSU on easy. When I used to work in Game they had a no fuss 10 day return policy, and this one guy used to come in on a Friday and buy all the big new releases, then come back on the Monday and ask for a refund stating that he’d “Completed it on Easy”. Surely games like Halo and Ninja Gaiden deserve to be ramped up to the highest setting and savoured for the mammoth challenge they present? Completing it on easy then not playing it on a higher difficulty is a bit of a cop-out! He never kept a game as far as we could tell. I’ll come back to this later.

I started the evening on Parum, running Mad Creatures C. It was easy. I thought I’d give Scarred Planet a go as well, only realising once I was one hitting everything that the enemies were only level 5. Not even the Grass Assassins at the end gave me much trouble. But it was after I’d cleared the mission that something became apparent; Here’s yet another reason why players nowadays have it easier.

A rank of S on Mad Creatures C gave 2 mission points.
A rank of S on Scarred Planet C gave 21 mission points.

And Scarred Planet was much, much easier.

After this little episode I toddled off to Neudaiz. Mizuraki Defense first, and it brought back many delightful memories of my early playing days. The music, the colours of the leaves, it was magical. Shame the enemies went down so fast. I was initially fearful of the Goshins as I remembered what a pain they used to be, but a couple of Shotgun blasts to their stupid flowery faces soon got rid of them. I then ran Forested Islands, which features much the same enemies as Mizuraki Defense, as well as my first real test; A Kamatoze. Bah, it was easy! My knowledge of his offensive capabilities helped more than my Rifle’s level 4 Fire bullet.

I did find a Gourmet Cake in my travels. Thanks to our knowledge of what future missions will be available from the Japanese servers, the Gourmet Cake will be used in an upcoming trade mission, so it is reasonably desirable. If I had found it upon release, it would be a novelty, practically worthless apart from as Partner Machinery food. Now though, it has a retail value of 150,000 Meseta. Going by my ethos of “living off the land”, tokkybot ver.2 will not have to worry about Meseta for a long time to come! Opening a shop costs 15,000 Meseta, easily covered by the 20,000 or so I’d already made this evening, and well worth it to get 150k for the Gourmet Cake. I just hope it sells.

Anyway, what the hell did the little story at the beginning of this entry have to do with Project tokkybot? It’s a very tenuous link, but I feel as if I’ve actually got too powerful for C missions now, or at least they are too easy, and I don’t want to be the guy who takes it back because he’s completed it. I’m used to S2. The enemies move so much faster, and attack with more frequency. True, as a Ranger I’m predominantly standing back and sniping things, if I were a fighter then I’d be in amongst it a bit more, and trading damage instead of just dealing it out, but there’s never any real emergency. I think I need to step it up a notch, challenge myself, and only go for the hardest missions I have access to. I have a few lobbies open, some of which lead to bosses, so I think next time I’ll have to man up and take on the big guys.

Thing is, do I go for Onmagoug, De Ragan or Zoalgoug?
