In an effort to chronicle my progress in the various avenues of my life, I have started using Obsidian in an effort to organise my thoughts and design processes. One of the features is a daily note system, in which I just jot down a few notes of what I’ve been doing that day and at the end of week it collates them all up into a weekly note, which is the perfect framework for a weekly update. So here goes!

I was just getting to grips with Obsidian and customising it to my liking. It’s tough, in that I wasn’t really sure what I would need at that point, I was just getting used to the software, so I wasn’t really sure what plugins I would actually use. One piece of advice I read was to keep things as lean as possible in terms of plugins, so I’ve settled on just the Calendar for now, as that helps with the daily note stuff.
I’d like to work out how to create tasks, and maybe integrate them with the daily note system. I do know that I need to start moving things from Miro sooner rather than later – the longer it takes, the longer before I can move on to the next stage. There is a lot of info on there, from game ideas, to flowcharts for game systems, to my complete to-do mind map.

I did a nice little bit of research on Reddit about Obsidian, and I worked out the difference between folders and tags – tags seem a better fit so far, but I’m still unsure. That’s one worry with this new system, that I might lock in on a feature that may eventually be “wrong” for my needs. I don’t want to have to go back and change everything later on down the road – which is why that advice from earlier (keep things as lean as possible in terms of plugins) seems to make so much sense.
I have decided on doing an intensive course of driving lessons after the six weeks school holiday, learning to drive must take precedence over having a driveable car I think.

Jake was off school sick today so I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked. I’m still working out Obsidian – I Found a plugin to custom sort the file explorer, which is good. Where I had just started populating the folder organisation hierarchy, I found it annoying that the folders automatically sorted into date created and there was no way to manually change them without a plugin.
I moved some more information over from Miro and worked out how Templates worked in Obsidian. Seems very powerful – should be helpful to aid a good workflow.

I looked into Excalidraw and it seems more flexible than the standard Obsidian Canvas, but then I watched a video that compared the two, and Excalidraw seemed like it had too many extras that I probably wouldn’t use. And I’m not too sure on the aesthetic, to be honest. I’ve always felt the hand-drawn style doesn’t come across as authentic in a digital world. There’s a difference between something actually being hand-drawn, and something created to look hand-drawn.
This is where I decided to use a weekly note as a framework for posts such as the one you are looking at now. The original weekly note was more like a series of sentences that I have had to mostly rewrite so it is more of a blog post – maybe I should write my daily notes in this style in the first place so this process takes less time. Also I should decide on how to present the writing – am I writing this weekly post from the perspective of me on that previous day, or am I writing from the perspective of me now, looking back on that day? Tricky.
