I’m coming to the end of my knee’s recovery period, and I’ve made quite a bit of progress since first being off work. I put up a bookcase upstairs, sorted out a bunch of old clothes and bits and bobs I don’t need anymore, and sorted out my bookcase downstairs somewhat – it’s still a work in progress but I’m getting there, and I’ve made a lot of progress in setting up my online coaching business. I’ve not said much about it on here for whatever reason, but that’s my plan for finally getting out of Asda. As I was unable to continue driving lessons due to covid, I had to postpone doing a level 4 in Counselling, so instead I did an online coaching course, and because the profession is pretty much unregulated, I’m going to start coaching or consulting with people that need help and guidance.
From the International Coaching Academy: https://coachcampus.com/articles/how-to-start-your-coaching-business/
You don’t have to be a graduated, certified coach to officially hang up your shingle and start your coaching business. In fact we advise our coaching students to start coaching and earning revenue as soon as they can. With so many affordable online tools available to business owners these days your business can change and develop as you do. Your business, your logo, your website of today don/t have to be the same as tomorrow.
It’s pretty similar to what I planned on doing eventually with a level 4 in Counselling, but instead of going in depth into someone’s past, it focusses more on their present situation and where they want to be in the future. I know it’s not exactly the best time to launch a business, given the state of the economy right now, but at the moment it’s something I’m doing alongside working at Asda, and it’ll all be in spare time that I’d just be waiting for Jake to finish school anyway. Having to be here in the morning to wake him up and do the school run, and having to be here at 3 o’clock to go and get him from school has really narrowed my options when it comes to actually having a career of my own. Still, realising that I do have those hours in-between drop-off and pick-up, and maybe some in the evening, combined with the ability to help people remotely thanks to having a webcam and an internet connection, and things were looking a bit more do-able.
This realisation also came with a mindset shift – for every hour I would like to have a client, I should be working towards getting more clients, or doing something productive that helps my business. Getting up at six and having a shower before Jake wakes up frees up so much time. Then, after I get home from the school run I am free to work productively for the rest of the day. Before, I would have a shower after getting home from the school run, and thanks to the ADHD realising there is no real time limit, I would often make having a shower and getting dressed last the whole morning, and be ready to work *after* lunch. So yeah, you can see how having that shower before doing the school run helps me. I know blaming it on the procrastination aspect of ADHD can be a bit of a cop-out, but it can only dig it’s nasty claws in if you give it the opportunity. So the lack of a hard time limit after the school run means there are no drastic consequences for me sitting in my towels until lunchtime. Taking the initiative, not letting the procrastination get a look in, and getting the shower out of the way frees up so much time, and makes me feel good because I’m not letting procrastination win. I’ve got my assessment for adult ADHD in early January, which should help dot some i’s and cross some t’s. An official diagnosis will open the doors for a lot of help managing the condition, including medical treatment.
With regards to the health of my knee – I’m not looking forward to going back to Asda, as I’m still quite unsteady on my feet. I’m not in constant pain all the time now at least, but I’m still unsteady. I can’t carry things while going up stairs, sit down or stand up for extended periods of time, or change direction easily while walking for example, so I’m not sure if they’ll move me to a different department upon my return. Hopefully the online therapy business picks up quickly so I don’t have to work there for long.
