Repeat

Hi there, toxic here with another Random Game Friday – this week I am playing Repeat – a delightful little puzzle game that gets away with being so minimalist because it’s just such a good idea.

The premise is utterly simple: You enter a string of commands, and your little white cube avatar moves. Then it goes back to the start of the string of commands you entered and moves them again. It will continue to “Repeat” your orders until it has either collected all the required items on the play-field (at which point you win), or it collides with a grey cube (this is the lose-state). The game has a few tricks up it’s sleeve but once you realise you can think outside the box it becomes a tad easier. Also, working backwards from your goal is a solid tactic.

Repeat is a good game as it is, but it has almost worked itself dry. It would be a real challenge to devise more levels that come at the game from an angle that hasn’t already been explored. I kinda feel like it could be a mini-game inside a big release, like to unlock a safe, or hack a computer terminal or something.
