Jane and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary last weekend, we went away to Lurcombe again – we really like it there. While we were away we watched The Iceman – the film of the book of the life, if you will. I read the book back in 2009, and it kick-started my love of reading again, which I guess, in turn, re-awakened my passion for drawing. I must sound like some kind of broken record, because as usual, the book was better than the film. Has there ever been a film that was better than the book? Anyway, I felt that the film glossed over many key points that made Richard Kuklinski who he was, and it gave the impression that he just kind of fell into the assassination business. I won’t list every issue I had with it, but from what I read in the book he was violent towards his wife and three children – the film never showed any of this, or even his third child. The book touched on the inner workings of the mob and how as a Pole, Richard would never be truly accepted into the Mafia, which is something Kuklinski yearned for. The film ignored that particular aspect. It didn’t even stand up as a good film if I’m being honest, it just plodded along until Richard was caught by the police. Overall, I was very disappointed. I mean we never even saw him leave a bleeding, still alive target out for the hungry rats, and that was a very memorable part of the book for me.

I was, up until recently, growing a beard. It was going really well until Wednesday, when I was trying to trim it and it went wrong. I just kept hacking bits off to try and salvage it but in the end it all had to go. It’s the first time in a long time that I’ve been without a beard of any kind and I hate it. I’m not fond of my chin at all. I’ve got quite a baby-face, and people have been saying I look up to ten years younger. What is the point in looking younger? If it actually made me ten years younger… That would be something. Anyway, the hair on my face was longer than the hair on my head, it felt really good. I did make a few mistakes early on in the growing process, such as starting off with an already quite full goatee and moustache combo – I really needed to start with everything the same length. I shaved the neck part quite often too, which led to some issues with me not really knowing where to trim after a few weeks worth of growth. Lessons have been learned, and rest assured I will be sporting an awesome beard in a couple of months. People already miss the beard, they loved and admired it – it was those people who kept me strong when a select few hated on it.
On RF, we have a random game on a Friday which involves working out how to kill things made of pixels. Check out Ending. Also on RF, I talk a bit about Costume Quest and how great it is.
That’s all for now.
