I went to a bookshop…

…and I did not know where to start.

I’ve only recently discovered the joy of reading. Apart from reading all seven Harry Potter books a few years ago, the last time I read a book was probably at school, a very long time ago indeed. I always preferred comics to books, as they had pretty pictures to look at. But that all changed when Jane, who more often than not has her head in a book, recommended I read The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer, by Phillip Carlo. I was hooked. Since then I have read a couple of books based on internet blogs (http://randomreality.blogware.com and http://littlecatdiaries.blogspot.com/), but I really got into it by reading the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman.

So anyway, I went into Waterstones the other day and I just did not know where to begin looking. I wanted something a bit like His Dark Materials, some magical fantasy, and ended up with The Better Mousetrap by Tom Holt and A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, both classified as “Comic Fantasy”.

I’ll let you know how I get on with them.
