Seeing as Jane and I were going out for a meal with her work-mates in Southampton last night, I thought I’d go over earlier in the day and see my family. Met David and Otis at the Mayflower, then went on to the hospital and had lunch with Mum, gave her some belated birthday presents and just generally had a nice catch-up. Then David and I went back to his for a bit, then we went to pick up Jasmine from school, she was visibly both confused and excited (in equal measure) to see me. Then I went and booked in at the hotel, then travelled back to the hospital to meet Jane, which I shouldn’t have done, because she did tell me that she was getting a lift into town and that I should meet her in town. Ah well. It all worked out in the end. Then we had pre-drink drinks in the hotel bar, then some pre-drinks in a pub, then some nice food in a nice Italian restaurant. I went for the 10oz Rib Eye steak – rare of course. It was delicious.
I felt so rough this morning though. I didn’t have much to drink, but for whatever reason it hit me really hard and I was actually quite drunk. Jane had to get up quite early to go to work, and I got up with her and we went for breakfast. I also woke up with an incredibly blocked nose, which was not good. Feeling hungover, sleepy and ill all at once – not the best combination. Still, Jane gave me a tablet and it miraculously kicked in after I’d struggled eating a sausage and a bit of scrambled egg – I regained my appetite and went on to consume some really very nice bacon, a slice of black pudding, another sausage and some beans. When Jane toddled off to work, I had three hours before check-out time, so I had a shower and got ready in a very leisurely fashion. I then made my way through Southampton city centre, checking out some of the cool shops I’d not been in for ages. I saw this amazing Super Street Fighter IV art book in Forbidden Planet – I upgraded to the Arcade Edition of SSFIV recently and decided that I loved the brushwork of the character portraits on the select screen. I have no idea why I never fell in love with them earlier, to be honest.
Then I got the train home and started writing this.
Oh, and I also recently discovered Nando’s. Their extra extra hot sauce is immense.
