Day four brought with it a visit to Blackgang Chine: A name that has resonated throughout my life. My Mum and Dad took David and me there years and years ago, not that I remember the place at all, just the name. Although I doubt it was as impressive back then as it is now, there are some aspects that brought back some memories. Good or bad, I’m not sure, but memories nonetheless.
Overall, I was quite impressed with the variety of attractions, and the sheer imagination ploughed into every single one. There was nothing that I came away from thinking “well, that was rubbish”, every attraction, no matter how tiny, left an impression. Jane, Claire, Ethan and Lewis had a go on the waterslide, whereas Claire, Ethan and I had a go on the rollercoaster. It was quite thrilling.
After that, we went down to the beach. It was a lovely day, and we went much earlier than we had done on the previous few days, so it was a bit busy. Lewis and I once again made a sand castle, this time with a kind of channel for the water to flow around it and into a reservoir just behind it. As tide was slowly coming in, our reservoir was being filled, and this did eventually lead to the spire just collapsing. Good times. With the tide came lots of mist. You could actually see the change happening, it was moving that fast. We decided to leave, and as we walked up the steep hill, you could see mist rolling over the hedgerow, it was quite something.
When we got home, we realised we didn’t have much in the way of suitable food for tea, so Jane and I popped to the local convenience store, where we found chicken drummers and microwave chips. Honestly, it was the best we could find. After that it was off to the dancing pub, we stole a glass, and won more tickets.
