Yes, I know I’m very late on this subject, but playing with the screenshot mode on Halo 3: ODST has made me remember that I’d like to talk about this.
The entire Theatre mode of Halo 3 was an absolute genius masterstroke. Given the amount of people who use the internet as well as play games on their consoles, it was only a matter of time before the two crossed over. It automatically saves films of the matches you have, then you can go back and watch them at a later date to learn from your mistakes, save small clips of your best moments, and of course, take screenshots. Any screenshots you take, provided you are connected to Xbox Live are automatically uploaded to Bungie.net where you can access them, edit their meta data, save them for your own use, or just arrange them into a nice gallery.
I probably spend as much time watching replays as I do actually playing the game to be honest, finding the right angle for a screenie or cutting a clip to put on my File Share. You can search Bungie.net for the latest, highest rated, or the most appropriate (using tags) screenshots, and it’s great fun just having a look and seeing what everyone else is up to. In a perfect world, every single game should have at least a screenshot mode, if not a full Theatre mode for watching replays.
