Forge and Arena update

Headrush, my Headlong "remix" is coming along nicely. About 50% done. I felt I needed to make the open area a bit bigger - the scale seems different in Reach. It gives vehicles more room to manoeuvre. I've made sure I've kept the different ground levels in there, so there's only one way back to the attacking base with the…

Just a quick one today

I finally convinced Jane to watch Dexter! We're only a few episodes in, but she's enjoying it, like I knew she would. It's great watching it from the start again. Halo: Reach is just immense. There's so much to do, so many bad guys to kill, Jane and I have been playing it at almost every free moment we've had.…

Screenshot of the week: Perfection

Halo: Reach is full of noobs. I got a Perfection in my first Big Team Battle by basically standing on our teams side of the map with a Sniper Rifle. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. Except red Spartans instead of fish. And Haemorrhage instead of a barrel. I gave up on ever getting one of these in…

Halos and Goblins

Halo: Reach is officially launched on Tuesday, so I thought I’d take a look back at my time with the franchise – I can hardly believe it’s been ten years!

Halo

It all started way back in the days of working at Game, and the launch of the original Xbox. Halo was the big game of the launch and my manager at the time raved about it. I admit, I was unimpressed when he was telling me how the Pistol was the best weapon, and there were grenades that stuck to your enemies, and that one melee attack to the back of an opponent was an instant kill… But then I played it. Campaign at first, it was immense. I never really got on with other console First Person Shooters such as Goldeneye, Quake II or Perfect Dark on the N64 as they never quite felt right, but this did – the controls were sublime. Lugging an Xbox and TV to Craig’s flat was so worth it. Our Halo LAN sessions were never frequent, and there were only a few of them, but they remain a fondly remembered highlight of my life so far. Given that there were only eight of us playing, Sidewinder and Blood Gulch were probably not the best maps to choose, but man, those CTF games were epic, and it was incredible hearing the shouting and swearing come from the other room when we thwarted an attack and recovered our flag.

Screenshot of the week: Defining memory

New feature alert. Every Thursday I'm going to find my favourite Halo-related screenshot of the past week and post it. It'll be fun. I call this one "Defining Memory", because at times I felt I spent more time dead than alive in Halo 3. Hence the picture of me being dead. You can find other Screenshots of the Week on…

List Of Maps I’m Going To Make In Forge World

Forge in Halo: Reach is, quite simply, looking immense. As well as offering more objects per level, the new tools and abilities at your disposal will hopefully let you re-create maps of old, as faithful to the originals as you can possibly imagine. It's been occupying my thoughts a lot recently, so I thought I'd write up a "List Of…
Reading list for August

Reading list for August

LOL GOT YOU! I've not read anything for months, mainly because we've not bought any new books. Instead, I've been playing videogames. I'll be honest - I'm struggling a bit with Pokémon Emerald. It's not the difficulty, it's just the slog. The areas seem a lot farther apart in this game and I've not found Fly yet, and as such,…
