Goodbye 2013

So what happened in 2013 then? It was another mixed bag. The best thing ever happened: I stopped smoking. And I don't even miss it. I'm not suffering from some black depression because I'm holding myself back from smoking my precious cigarettes, I'm not deluding myself by switching to an eCigarette, I'm not counting down the hours until I can…
The power of X

The power of X

I'll try and keep the spoilers to a minimum, I won't ruin endings or anything. As I said a few days ago, I felt like a traitor. From what I've heard, the Superman movie is good in a Summer blockbuster type way, but not faithful to the source material. Particularly, Superman shouldn't kill. Ever. Anyway, I had also heard that…

I feel like a traitor, kind of

For doubting Marvel... When we get a new cat I want to call it Richard Parker Oh yeah, before Star Trek started, there was a trailer for The Wolverine. It looked pretty badass. Being a Marvel kinda guy, really into the X-Men back in the day, I am well up for it. Then, directly after that, was a trailer for…
You are not a nerd, you are a tourist

A real nerd t-shirt

What is it with all these Nerd, Geek, Dweeb and Dork t-shirts about at the moment? And why do I feel like 90% of the people wearing them are not nerds, geeks, dweebs, losers or dorks? The majority of them are teenage girls, and look quite up to date with their fashion. They do not look like the kind of people who could follow the plot of Game of Thrones, get a Killing Frenzy in Halo or explain why Klingons didn’t have knobbly foreheads in the original series of Star Trek. If they were really nerds, wouldn’t they wear t-shirts that look like random, normal t-shirts but are actually subtle references to nerdy TV shows or videogames or bands or comics that only fellow fans of nerdy TV shows or videogames or bands or comics would understand? For example, I have a t-shirt that is yellow and green, and has a Japanese symbol across the front of it. If you didn’t know about Jet Set Radio Future, you’d think it was simply a yellow and green t-shirt.

Tourists, the lot of them.

Anyway, that pre-ramble is to set the scene for what deeply disappointed me yesterday afternoon. There was a kid who was in shopping with his Mum, Dad and sister, he was about 12 I’d say, and he was wearing one of these slogan t-shirts. I saw him from the side at first, I noticed it ended in “t”. I had a little think about what it could be, tried to work it out in my head, but I would never have got it in a million years. After about five seconds of me thinking, the kid turned, and I saw the word which was emblazoned across his chest in 500pt bold type.

So that was Lost then

So that was Lost then

I left this post for a while on purpose, just so I could let things sink in. Overall, I think the ending could have been much, much worse. At first I didn't mind the whole church ending scene as I was a bit shaken by all the slow montages of the Islander's remembering their time on the island, and watching…
