When you think about things in ways you never expected…

…because you did something stupid.

I feel like I may need to elaborate a little more on what I wrote yesterday – it was a little obtuse. It’s all very well me saying that I don’t want to do this or do want to do that, but if I don’t act on it then things will never change. The only person who can change me is me. The only person who truly gets value from a motivational quote is someone who understands it and acts on it. My viewpoints on a lot of things have changed – some recently, some a long time ago. I drew a couple of Adventure Time sketches the other day. I used to have a hang-up about fan-art, in that if it didn’t look exactly as the original creator or an authorised, in-house artist had drawn it, then it was “bad”. Like a lot of other childish viewpoints I used to hold, this has slowly evaporated over time, and I have come to realise the importance of an artist translating characters into their own unique visual style.

RFBW: Philip Pullman – His Dark Materials

Northern Lights Dæmons. The manifestation of a soul outside of a persons body. It's such an imaginative, un-normal idea, and I love how in the parallel universe this is set, it is totally unimaginative and thoroughly normal. Lyra has to be my favourite heroine of all time. Feisty, aggressive, brave and very much a free-spirit, her unwitting betrayal of her…

RFBW: Jeffery Deaver

The Blue Nowhere This is one of Jane's books that she recommended I read. She really likes her crime thrillers, whereas I am more of a fantasy/science fiction fan. Still, I'm always willing to give new things a try (even if it is just to say I don't like them). Basic premise is this: One gifted computer expert likes to…

RFBW: Introduction

Oh, hi. It's Book Week this week on Waves, which basically means I'm posting a load of stuff about books I have read. I have been meaning to write up my thoughts on them in a while, so why not make some kind of half-arsed feature out of it? I wonder if, in the future, I note my feelings towards…

2009 Top 10: Reading books

2009 was the year I properly started to read books. Apart from all seven Harry Potter books a few years back, I've never really been into the whole reading thing. It's clearly one of Jane's bad habits rubbing off on me, she's very rarely without her nose in a book. The first time I went into a bookshop with the…

I went to a bookshop…

...and I did not know where to start. I've only recently discovered the joy of reading. Apart from reading all seven Harry Potter books a few years ago, the last time I read a book was probably at school, a very long time ago indeed. I always preferred comics to books, as they had pretty pictures to look at. But…
