It’s been a while

This is the longest I've left making a post for a long time. Nothing interesting has really happened to be honest. I've made a canvas for a work-friend, and nearly finished another one for some other friends, convinced Jane to make some progress on her fiction (specifically, The Famous Yiberdeedo), watched some films that I don't really feel the need…

Videogame targets

http://www.trueachievements.com/gamergoals.aspx?gamerid=2710 I know I was debating not having a target this year, but with all these other targets I thought "Why not, eh?". Can I get to 100,000 in eleven months? It's an increase of around 14,000 - I managed that last year. If I can find enough short and easy games then it won't take long, but I'm kind…
Gamerscore target reached

Gamerscore target reached

I hit my target of 80,000 Gamerscore today. I had until the end of the year, but it was playing on my mind a lot, so I just decided to get it over with before Halo 4 hits. And there are a few other games I want to play for fun in the meantime too, such as Deus Ex: Human…

Taking stock

After the madness of my cousins wedding and the holiday with the boys, I feel I need to streamline my existence, have a good sort out and tidy everything up. I started today (whilst catching up on Peep Show - the tail end of series 6 and start of series 7), just general organisational things really, and I have next…

Gamersc-whore

In the last few days I've made huge progress on my Gamerscore target. I've gone from near 74,000 to almost 76,000 thanks to a couple of proper easy games. I would say shit games, but one of them was quite good. Megamind was horse-shit, but it only took me around 4 hours to get the 1000. Cloudy With A Chance…
Wanquish

Wanquish

Although actually, it wasn't wank, it was really good. I loved it. At first I didn't quite get it, but after a while slowing down time to shoot multiple bad robots faces off just gelled. I would say that's Vanquish in a nutshell, but there's more to it than that. First of all, it's tough. I played it on Hard…

Holiday 2011: Day 7

We went to Teignmouth on day seven. It was raining, so we didn't really see much there. We went to The House Of Marbles, saw some guys blowing glass things, Jane and Myrtle bought some glass things, other than that, not a lot happened on this day. I got the impression Jane was still feeling delicate. In the evening we…

Target 2011

On True Achievements.com I have set myself a target of 60,000 Gamerscore this year. That's a gain of around 10,000. It's a bit of a different scenario from last year. Unlike last year, having funds to purchase new games won't be a problem - but unlike last year, I won't have unlimited free time to play these games. I've also…

Halos and Goblins

Halo: Reach is officially launched on Tuesday, so I thought I’d take a look back at my time with the franchise – I can hardly believe it’s been ten years!

Halo

It all started way back in the days of working at Game, and the launch of the original Xbox. Halo was the big game of the launch and my manager at the time raved about it. I admit, I was unimpressed when he was telling me how the Pistol was the best weapon, and there were grenades that stuck to your enemies, and that one melee attack to the back of an opponent was an instant kill… But then I played it. Campaign at first, it was immense. I never really got on with other console First Person Shooters such as Goldeneye, Quake II or Perfect Dark on the N64 as they never quite felt right, but this did – the controls were sublime. Lugging an Xbox and TV to Craig’s flat was so worth it. Our Halo LAN sessions were never frequent, and there were only a few of them, but they remain a fondly remembered highlight of my life so far. Given that there were only eight of us playing, Sidewinder and Blood Gulch were probably not the best maps to choose, but man, those CTF games were epic, and it was incredible hearing the shouting and swearing come from the other room when we thwarted an attack and recovered our flag.

Reading list for August

Reading list for August

LOL GOT YOU! I've not read anything for months, mainly because we've not bought any new books. Instead, I've been playing videogames. I'll be honest - I'm struggling a bit with Pokémon Emerald. It's not the difficulty, it's just the slog. The areas seem a lot farther apart in this game and I've not found Fly yet, and as such,…
