Holiday 2011: Day 3

Holiday 2011: Day 3

On day three we went to Bygones in Torquay. It is a place that revels in the past, and has around a million interesting artefacts from the 40s and 50s, mostly nostalgic packaging. From preserved biscuits (which look surprisingly like modern day biscuits), through racist gollywogs, to "titillating" images. It was quite interesting though, and fair play to them for…

Holiday 2011: Day 2

Got up and had a shower. The shower was nice. The bathroom in general was quite nice too. Then we had a fried breakfast. This, supposedly, was to fill us up so we wouldn't want lunch 'til later in the day, but I found I was still hungry at the usual lunch time. We went to Paignton Zoo on day…
Holiday 2011: Day 1

Holiday 2011: Day 1

Holiday! I got up at 5am so I could jump in the shower first (I must have a shower every morning - I get terribly sweaty at night), and be ready for the designated 7am departure time. Funny - 5am is my usual Saturday morning wake-up time, so it wasn't too much bother for me. As I said, 7am was…
Pre-holiday bonus

Pre-holiday bonus

Work is a bit odd at the moment. Loads of people are leaving or possibly getting sacked - I'm glad I can get away from it for a week to be honest. We're going to Dawlish next week, with Jane's Mum and Dad. Should be interesting. Anyway, as a pre-holiday bonus, I went to see Mum, David and Jasmine today.…

Happy Birthday to me

I am now 32 years old, and I'm sure I say this every year, but I don't feel a day older than 25. My loved ones got me some smashing gifts. Jane got me Fable III, which, due to me working, she has played more than I have. Mum got me the new Rangers shirt, it's so nice, and a…

Golden brown, texture like sun

So Claire was going out so she asked me to watch her shortbread and take it out of the oven when it was golden brown. I kept an eye on it while playing Lips with Lewis, took it out when it was nice and golden, but later found out I had killed it because it was in there for too…

If I won the Lottery…

I was thinking the other night, and came up with all these ideas. I'd pay off Jane's part of the mortgage, and everyone else's, for that matter (if I won enough), I'd pay off Mum's mortgage and give her some money to do the house up, buy a modest little place for David, Katie and Jasmine so they wouldn't have…
MGM – The most pointless thing I’ve ever won

MGM – The most pointless thing I’ve ever won

I was once a keen Amiga enthusiast and I used to read Amiga Format. They ran competitions every month, but I never entered any. David and I were visiting our Father one weekend, and Amiga Format was running it's biggest competition ever, two whole pages of general knowledge questions - the prize was an Amiga 570 CD Drive. As there…

I’m doing it wrong

Usually I’ve written my Sunday entry by now – I like to make notes of any ideas I have, or any exciting events there may have been during the week, and most times I actually write it ahead of time when the inspiration strikes. This week however, the only thing of note that has happened is that interview I had, but I’ve already covered that in a post of it’s own… So… I’m struggling to think of things to write about.

Oh, I remember something now, the Live Arcade game this week was Game Room (essentially a collection of demos for rubbish old games), and it was free. That sounds good, right? Free game – free Achievements. Not really very many achievements, but some, 80 G’s added to your Gamerscore for free, nonetheless. To get anywhere near the full 1000 you need to pay for the individual games, and considering they are mostly priced the same as proper Live Arcade titles, it’s a bit of a money-spinning exercise by Microsoft there. Did I mention the games are all awful? Well, one or two could be construed as “classic”, but they’re mostly dog-shit.

Something else I could mention is that I’ve been re-reading the Harry Potter books this month, I finished Deathly Hallows the other night and I’m slowly writing up my thoughts on them. Expect those posts early April.

Spiral Onion Loaf

Went over to Southampton to see the guys yesterday, it was lovely. Jasmine is crawling now - slowly - but she's getting there. Her teeth are starting to come through and she looks so much like my Mum. I'm glad she was in a better mood than last time I went over, she was all smiles and laughs - last…
