Well, this is a first.
This week it’s not really a game but a playable prototype on RGF – today I’m playing the battle system for Luminant Fantasia, an as yet unfinished and unreleased game.
As with other variations of the active battle system, it’s all about bars. Bars above your character fill to fuel increasingly powerful attacks. A bar in the corner runs downwards, signalling how much time you have remaining of your turn. It’s a classic dilemma. Do you wait and charge a powerful attack and run the risk of your turn ending before you can unleash it, or go for several smaller attacks, chipping away at your enemies?
The numbers are astronomical in here – player HP is around 1,200 and with a simple attack you deal damage in the hundreds. Hopefully the numbers are representative of end-game strength levels – but I hope there is more to end-game battles than the simple tactics on show here.
Still, it’s nice enough to warrant a go or three.
