Lewis’s artistic progression

So when we first moved in together back in 2009, he was this good at drawing:

Yeah, I used to let him watch me play Halo 3: ODST, so what.

He started in year 7 this September. We’ve been drawing this Zinogre from Monster Hunter for a couple of hours a night for the past few weekends and we finally finished the pencils last night. Here is his version:

As you can see, it’s spectacular – quite an improvement. When I remember how good I was when I was in year 7… He has potential. I kinda wish I had kept my old artwork now – I got rid of it all when we moved over here figuring it was a chapter of my life I’ll never revisit – what a mistake. I would’ve liked to have directly compared my stuff to his. For example, my GCSE Art coursework to his when he’s in year 10 or 11.

I kinda feel like I have to spend time with him, well, that’s not true, it’s hard to explain, but I know what it’s like to be pulled through a divorce and losing the constant presence of a parent. When I was a child going through a divorce I would’ve loved for a grown-up to spend time with me, and just generally be there if I wanted to talk. I wanted to talk to someone about it, so badly, but there was never an adult when I needed one. I figured that if he wants to open up, then drawing with him would be a relaxed enough environment to do so.

Also, I almost want to get into Monster Hunter now, everything in the game is just gorgeous. Armours, weapons… And of course the monsters themselves. Can’t really justify a 3DS at the moment though, what with vet bills and Christmas coming up!
