I love the film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
I love the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels.
I do not love Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.
The universe itself is wonderfully realised in-game, it’s quite faithful to the books, and any new bits they added are also very much in the spirit of things… It’s just that as a game, it’s awful. The menu system is awkward and laggy, the RPG elements are an illogical addition to a side-scrolling beat-em-up, and why do developers insist on giving us “lives” in games where you can just start the stage you just died in, from the beginning, with three more lives?
As a homage to the Scott Pilgrim universe, it’s great. But as a game, it’s not that great at all.
