Fighting fire with fire

By Iain 16 August 2010Reflections, VideogamesNo Comments

This is all about Firefight, the super cool mode on Halo 3: ODST where you are in an arena and wave after wave of Covenant rush at you, shooting their futuristic neon laser guns in your direction. It was going to be about Pokémon, I figured I'd not written about it in a while. I am still playing Pokémon Emerald…

Bubble-heads unite!

There I was, playing Halo 3, waiting for Matchmaking to do it's stuff, as you do. The teams popped up, and whose was the first name I noticed, directly above mine on the blue team? Blimey, it's only GRcade moderator The Alchemist "Tiarny" Penguin. I fired off a quick "hi lol" message to him just as the game was starting…

Grifball!

By Iain 7 July 2010Reflections, VideogamesNo Comments

Bungie's Double XP Weekend playlist of choice this last weekend was Grifball. I adore Grifball. Created by Burnie Burns of Rooster Teeth, thanks to the wonder of Halo 3's Forge map creation tool and the fully customisable game-types, then combined with being able to spread these around via your own personal File Share, Grifball is undoubtedly the most successful user-created…

The Reach multiplayer beta is quite good fun

Here's my one screenshot I've taken so far. I took advantage of the way Spartans hold their hands out when running against walls. Nice touch, that. At first I was a bit let down, or confused, maybe. All these new things to use such as Armour Abilities and the new weapons, but after a few games I found some sweet…

Goodbye Halo 2

By Iain 15 April 2010Internet, Reflections, Site Related, VideogamesNo Comments

Last night was the last time Halo 2 will ever be playable over Xbox Live. Personally, I didn't attend (I got rid of Halo 2 ages ago - I never envisioned a time when we'd play it again), but I have spent the time being devoted to Halo 2 in other ways. I've been listening to the soundtrack (thanks again…

My memories of Phantasy Star Online

By Iain 4 November 2009Reflections, VideogamesNo Comments

Back in the day, you couldn't beat a bit of PSO on the Dreamcast. I remember begging my Mum to let me play it online, she agreed eventually but I had to pay the bill every month. I had many characters throughout my adventures with DC PSO, but the three pictured below are the three that I enjoyed most. You…

Halo 2 screenshots

That piece the other day reminded me of all those screenshots we took of Halo 2 years ago. They used to be up on the gallery that was integrated into our old phpBB2 forum, but I have them saved and would like to try and reproduce them here for you now. Bear in mind, with no screenshot feature in Halo 2 these were photographs of a TV screen taken by Orca.

Halo 3 screenshots

Yes, I know I'm very late on this subject, but playing with the screenshot mode on Halo 3: ODST has made me remember that I'd like to talk about this. The entire Theatre mode of Halo 3 was an absolute genius masterstroke. Given the amount of people who use the internet as well as play games on their consoles, it…
