Pretentious Game

Welcome to another round of RGF, and this week we’re playing a Pretentious Game. No, that’s not me calling it pretentious, that is the game’s title.

The basic aim is to guide your blue square around a level and make it collide with the pink square. As you progress through the game you’ll realise that the levels are very similar, with only minor alterations to the basic first level that make the most of the new tool that that particular board is teaching you, for example: a fire that kills you unless you jump over it. Some levels have unique quirks as well, such as a level with a gap that your normal jump cannot traverse, but you are given the ability to jump in mid-air, without being on solid ground.

There’s never really any definitive narration indicating that the blue square is a guy and the pink square represents a girl you like, but it is strongly implied. Very strongly. It is worth playing through the inventive levels to see how your relationship progresses – a subtlety I noticed is that the screen shakes a little when you collide with each other, as if it is saying “No”.
