Random Game Friday this week features a nice little game called TimeSwap.
As expected with a title like that, the game is based on time-manipulation – the first five minutes are great fun as you shift back and forth seemingly at random, but it soon takes the form of a “proper” game when you acquire the ability to switch time-zones at will.
The platforming aspect of the game does jar in places, as the controls are a little slippery, and positioning yourself before and after swapping time does involve a fair amount of guesswork at times. Some elements that cause a respawn after only one hit in one era don’t even exist in the other timeline, and some obstacles can only be removed in one era.
Because of the time-travel, the story is a little ambiguous – are you taking something or putting something back? It’s circular – you eventually end up where you began. See what you think – try it for yourself here: http://www.gamezhero.com/games/timeswap
