Pixel Escape

This week’s random game on a Friday is Pixel Escape.

It’s quite a simple premise – an auto-runner in which you can jump and draw platforms to avoid obstacles – which is an oft-repeated formula to be honest. However, it’s the personality that makes the game stand out from the auto-running crowd. As absurd as it sounds, the tiny R, G and B pixels have personality, and it’s not just for completion’s sake that you want to go back and save them all in a level. And go back you will, as the game is very fast-paced, and it’s almost impossible to save all the extra pixel people and not lose any on your first run of a level with pure instinctive play.

I’m also quite beguiled by the glitch wall. It’s beautiful, but then I adore glitch art. I do crave some backstory – What created the glitch wall? Why is it advancing with such relentless menace? Maybe I’m reading too much into it. I do love how the glitch wall effortlessly represents death though – anyone familiar with videogames instantly recognise it as something to avoid if they want to carry on playing.

Give it a try, see if you can rescue all the pixel guys and find a safe place for them to live. Here’s that link again – http://jayisgames.com/games/pixel-escape/
