Hey, this was really good! Did anyone else watch it?
I’m going to be spoiler-free today, just so that if you do decide to watch it, nothing you read here spoils it. I’m not usually bothered about spoilers, but that does tend to be just in videogames. I guess that’s how highly I regard the story-telling abilities of games, eh?
Anyway, Utopia.
The basic premise is that some comic fans who have only ever met on the internet find an unpublished manuscript for a graphic novel. Little do they know that it contains hidden information about the mysterious “Utopia Project”, and some very powerful-but-typically-conspiracy-looking-style gentlemen want it back. As with any conspiracy thriller worth it’s weight in conspiracy gold, you’re never really sure who is on which side, or who answers to who, and it keeps you guessing right up to the end, with characters staying true to their established character traits, but not necessarily staying as a good-guy with the other good-guys.
I really enjoyed the art direction – visually it was very stylised, with lots of natural light and saturated blocks of colour, and the soundtrack was good too. There are some moments that make you wince, some moments that are touching and poignant, and then there’s a moment at the end that will leave you deliberating your role on this Earth by making you think about your answer to this question: Would you create or destroy Utopia?
I think it’s still on 4OD – check it out!
