It’s come around quickly again this year. Like last year, I have been working night shifts on Music and Video to prepare and repair the department. It was four night shifts spread over two weeks this time, rather than three night shifts in a row, and it took it’s toll on my sleeping patterns. Still, think of the money. I listened to the Ministry of Sound: Hip-Hop Anthems volumes 1 and 2, a lot of electronic dance-y stuff, and some Running Trax. It’s not that I like running – I just enjoy the fast-paced euphoric mixes that tend to make up the Running Trax CD’s.
Christmas is an odd time in retail – you feel like you’re preparing for it for ages, then all of a sudden, it’s over. Which is a shame, as it tends to affect the time you’re not at work as well. You prepare for ages, then a day or two off work, and that’s it, back to the grind. I’d love to find a job that allows me to have more than two days off for Christmas next year.
I went over and saw Mum and David and Katie and Jasmine and Otis on the other end of a night shift last week to exchange Xmas presents and get my birthday presents and catch up and stuff – Man was I tired. I woke up Thursday as normal. Had a normal day, then went to work at 9pm. Got home the next morning at about 6:30, went to bed. Got up at around 3pm Friday (remember that time, it is important), then went off to work at 9pm. Worked on through, finished at 6am, went home, Jane gave me a lift to Southampton on her way to work, I popped into the hospital café and had a coffee and a beast of a bacon sandwich (6 rashers), then went on to my Mums. Stayed there all day, then came home at around 3pm, then had a typical Saturday night, went to bed at about 10pm.
31 hours of being awake! Some kind of record, for me. I slept well that night, I can assure you.
