I bought this new pad in Asda, it’s got creamy paper, really good quality, leather-bound and everything, and I really wanted to use it for some kind of project, but I was unsure what kind of project to do. Self-portraits scare me a little, so I decided to make it a book of me. You never really know what you’re capable of until you’ve challenged yourself. It’s not limited to self-portraits, it’s more a study of my self. How I am, how I think I am, I’ll try to express feelings onto a page. See how that goes.
As with everything with me, there are going to be no deadlines demanding I draw the next one, and I don’t think I’ll ever scan any of them up to colour in. I may venture into coloured pencils eventually, but for now it’s black and white, focusing on making things look real, even the surreal parts. Shadows, texture, composition, that kind of thing.
