Night shifts over and done with. That was… An experience. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so tired in all my life, and I’m sure I’ve missed a day somewhere this week.
In terms of actual work, on the first shift I really got into it, processed a huge delivery and created new bays and ends with stock we had loads of. Second shift I went nuts, made lists and lists of how many copies of everything we had out on the shopfloor and filled it to the brim. Third night was a little different as I had the January sale to do, but still made the whole department look amazing.
I listened to the Manic Street Preachers album a lot. And Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. On the way to and from work I listened to some of my favourite albums of all time (because this journey is roughly 45 minutes, the same rough length of time as a music album). First night was Saturday 8pm by Faithless. Such a good album. Second night was Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. Third night I went for a real old one – The Prodigy: Experience. I forgot how utterly amazing Hyperspeed was.
I was amazed at how quickly the time went. It’s definitely quicker than a day shift. It also gave me a new found respect for the night crew. They work damn hard, at damn inconvenient times of the day. I don’t think I’d mind doing it again next Christmas.
