I’m in two minds about this one, but:

Please note, none of the websites mentioned in this post are still active.

Soon there will be adverts throughout randomfury.co.uk.

I really don’t mind throwing £15 a month at the website, for a few reasons. I earn my own money, and I feel proud to pay for my own website. In the early days of rf.co.uk, Jane subsidised the site completely.
I enjoy the various aspects of what the hosting package has become. My personal blog (this blog here, you know?), a community blog devoted to videogames (which I will launch officially one day, honest), and eyess.net (a behind the scenes/portfolio for my artworks). I enjoy curating them, adding content to them, and engaging with the people that find them. And then comes the forum (which isn’t as active as it used to be, admittedly, but it’s still a chilled out place to have a random conversation). I consider the aspects mentioned above worth £15 a month – the forum is over, above and beyond that, an added extra.

Anyway, considering the above factors, why did I decide to put adverts on here? It’s not simply about the advert revenue – joining Google’s programs will result in more traffic, which hopefully will increase the audience – but money is a motivator. It started when I was investigating YouTube monetization – I figured I would make use of the websites I already have to create a bit of an empire, an online entity, a home away from the impersonal nature of YouTube’s comments section, and add a whole load of continuity, or backstory. It’s another avenue to help it along in becoming a credible source of income.

Rest assured, it was not a decision I came to quickly, and the adverts will be placed to be as unobtrusive as possible.
