I made three posts in early 2013 detailing some targets I had for the upcoming year, and all of them started well but fizzled out after I stopped smoking for some reason. I feel that if I acknowledge my mistakes, I can learn from them and improve myself. Here is my appraisal of the creative targets I set myself in 2013, which you can find here.
It was ImagineFX and devising some creative targets that inspired me to make targets for other random things you know. The daily target of just drawing more was failed. I barely sketched any rough ideas, rarely trained my hands and eyes, even though I was brimming with ideas, ideas that are now lost to the winds of time. Which is a shame. I made a little dent into my monthly target of producing one high quality image a month. As you can see on my creative portfolio blog, I did Thor, Batman, a Dalek… Not quite twelve, as many as there were supposed to be, but that’s better than none. They were mostly for printing onto canvas for gifts, and they all went down very well, were very much appreciated by their new owners. The image in the thumbnail on this page was probably my favourite piece of art, done in April. I got a lot of positive feedback for it, which is good, but also a little strange, because after that I pretty much gave up for the year.
I never sold any of my art, and despite sending a letter in to ImagineFX thanking them for reigniting my creative burner, it wasn’t published. I wasn’t expecting them to publish it to be quite honest. I have, however, pinned down the long term goals. Make a living off my art. Make money doing what I love. Make it so retail isn’t my primary source of income. I mean, I don’t think I could ever fully give up working at Asda, it does have a whole stack of benefits, but being able to comfortably go down to two days a week and have the confidence to say no to any and all overtime… That’d be nice.
